Abstract The study’ aim was to determine effect of wrapped warm footbath on pain and anxiety levels among patients with advanced cancer. Setting: The study was carried out at oncology department of Menoufia University Hospital. Subjects: A purposive sample of 100 patients of both sexes with advanced cancer was randomly selected and assigned alternatively and randomly into two equal groups, 50 patients for each group. Tools of the study: Four tools were used for data collection: BiosociodemographicStructural interview questionnaire, Visual Analogue Pain Scale, Abbey Pain Scale and Hamilton anxiety scale. Results: It is revealed that the mean ages for the study groups was 56.48 ± 14.10 years and control group 59.84 ± 12.16 years. There was a significant improvement in mean subjective pain score of study group 8.90±0.76 at pre intervention to become 4.32±0.96 and 3.82±0.80 1st and 3rd week post intervention respectively than control group. Also there was significant improvement in mean anxiety scores of study group 7.76 ± 1.85 pre intervention to become 5.68 ± 1.70 and 4.24±1.40 1st week and 3rd week post intervention than control group. Conclusions: Pain and anxiety levels reduced among advanced cancer patients who performed wrapped warm footbath than those who exposed only to the routine hospital care. Recommendations: Suprevised health education should be carried out for all patients with advanced cancer patients to alleviate pain and anxiety levels especially warm footbath and colored booklet should be available and distributed to all patients with advanced cancer. |
