Abstract Is to investigate the effectiveness of using low power laser acupuncture in patients with allergic rhinitis. Procedure: Forty subjects, both sex, diagnosed with allergic rhinitis were randomly divided into four equal groups of 10 patients each; group (A) control group received shame treatment, group (B) received medical treatment, group (C) received diode laser 905nm and group (D) received medical treatment and local corticosteroid and diode laser 905nm. Laser treatment received day after day for 45 day. Nasal symptoms were assessed by nasal symptoms severity score, non nasal symptoms were assessed by non nasal symptoms severity score, affection of life by allergic rhinitis was assessed by quality of life assessment of rhinitis severity score and present of allergy was assessed by measuring total immunoglobulin E. All measurements were taken before and at the end of the treatment. Results: The results obtined in the present study indicated that the reduction in total immunoglobulin E level, improvement in nasal symptoms severity score, non-nasal symptoms severity score and improvement of quality of life assessment of rhinitis severity score respectively was, in laser and medical group was 31.7%, 61.82%, 35.94%, 61.97%, laser acupunture group was 19.46%, 39.72%, 25.24%, 55.74%,medical group was 12.85% 24.85%, 20.21% 46.15% and placebo group was 6.2%, 14.32%., 11.7%, 32.25%. Conclusion: The significant effect of improvement in nasal symptoms severity score, non nasal symptoms severity score, quality of life assessment of rhinitis severity score and total immunoglobulin E level had the highest effect in the Laser and Medication group, then the Laser group, then the Medical group. |
