Abstract

Photobiostimulation is the term used to describe the stimulatory effects of laser light upon biological functions (Baxter, 1994). Photobiostimulation has been used for a variety of medical therapies such as wound healing and pain control as well as basic scientific research (Harris, 1988). Photoirradiation at low energy levels can generate significant bio-effects which are manifested in biochemical, physiological, and proliferative phenomena in various enzymes, cells, tissues, organs and organisms (Yu et al., 1997). According to master (1985) and other works, laser can stimulate the healing of ulcers with refractory nature to ordinary lines of therapies. In this work we aimed to evaluate the efficacy of low intensity laser in treatment of chronic leg ulcers which had proved unresponsive to conventional therapy. Also in order to assess the mechanism of laser tissue biostimulation, some biochemical parameters were performed including oxidant/antioxidant status, growth factors and DNA.
