Abstract

Onychomycosis is the fungal infection of the nail, it is a common chronic disease with a substantial negative effect on the quality of life to those who suffer from it. Onychomycosis is the most common nail disorder and probably represent about 30% of all cutaneous fungal infections although not life threating. Onychomycosis constitutes an important health problem because of its high prevalence and the associated morbidity In onychomycosis, some factors such as diabetes, aging, atopy immunodeficiency virus, immunosuppressive therapy, psoriasis trauma, tinea pedis, hyperhydrosis and genetic considered as a predisposing factors and should be paid more attention Five clinical types of onychomycosis are recognized based on the site and pattern of fungal invasion. The identification of clinical patterns of the disease may be useful in defining differences in clinical behavior and treatment.
