Abstract

Children with JCTDs may have a wide variety of clinical features ranging from fever or a simple arthritis to complex multisystem autoimmune diseases. The presence and the degree of nervous system impairment in these patients vary widely, depending on the disease and its course. Manifestations of neurologic disease may precede the onset of any other symptoms or occur much later.
The aim of the work was to study clinical and electrophysiological peripheral and central neuromuscular changes in children with CTDs.
This study was carried out on thirty children with different JCTDs and thirty normal children as a control group. Clinical and neurological examination and laboratory investigations were done. Electrophysiological evaluation was performed and included: Sensory conduction studies of the median, ulnar, superficial radial and sural nerves; motor conduction studies of the median, ulnar, posterior tibial and peroneal nerves; F wave of median and ulnar nerves; H-reflex; RNS test; SEP of median and posterior tibial nerves and EMG of tibialis anterior and gluteus muscles.
