Abstract Hepatocellular carcinoma is thought to be the second leading cause of cancer-related death worldwide, accounting for approximately 800000 deaths every year. Recently, the incidence of HCC in countries of the developing world has been rapidly increasing. This is especially true in Egypt, where the rising incidence of HCC is attributed to HCV prevalence among the Egyptian population Although there have been advancements in the treatment of HCC and a doubling of long-term survival, the overall 5-year survival remains low, at 18%, indicating a need for novel therapeutic options. |
