Abstract

With the growing applications of Internet and other multimedia systems, tremendous amount of digital products are being generated and circulated through various information systems each year. The security of these products has becoming an important issue which has been studied over the past few decades. A typical solution is digital watermarking, which has been applied in many information security applications, such as copyright protection, temper detection, authentication, and broadcast monitoring. Technically speaking, digital watermarking aims to hide watermark data into the actual media object without affecting its normal usage. When necessary, the owners can extract the watermark data to declare their copyright.
Digital image watermarking techniques can be classified into three types spatial, transform and hybrid- based techniques. Spatial watermarking is applied directly to image’s data with ability to embed large amount of data, good visual imperceptibility, and extreme ease of implementation. Frequency Domain (or Transform Domain) embed the watermarks in the spectral coefficients of the image. Hybrid techniques using a combination of spatial domain techniques with frequency domain techniques or combination of frequency domain techniques.
Robustness of the most existing digital image watermarking schemes are groundless against the ‘‘watermark attacks,’’ and the lack of watermarked image’s quality.
The thesis aims to propose techniques that have superior performance in watermarked image’s quality and robustness against attacks.
Contributions of the thesis:
1- Proposing an invisible watermark technique that relies on discrete wavelet transform (DWT), intermediate significant bit (ISB) and transparent watermark.
2- Proposing an invisible watermark technique that relies on selected significant bit (SSB) optimization method and a pre defined mathematical operation.
The thesis comprises five chapters, which are organized as follows:
Chapter one: Presents an overview of digital image watermarking which includes
its types, operations and applications. Also, it includes organization
of the thesis.
Chapter two: Presents a literature review of watermarking methods. It presents some methods in spatial domain using least significant bit (LSB) and spread weighted sum (SWS) and gives an example on each of them. Also, it presents some methods in transform domain using DCT , DWT method and hybrid- based techniques .
Chapter three: Proposes a watermark technique based on DWT, intermediate significant bit (ISB) and transparent watermark. A comparison between the proposed method and Ref. [50] is included. The proposed method gives better performance in watermarked image’s quality and robustness against attacks. A second watermarking technique is proposed that based on embedding the message in
deeper significant bits, the so called selected significant bit (SSB) optimization method and a pre defined mathematical operation. A comparison between the proposed technique and Ref. [51] is carried out. The proposed technique gives better results than Ref. [51].
Chapter four: Presents the result of the proposed Algorithm implemented on digital image and a comparison between the proposed methods with other exiting methods.
Chapter five : Draws the conclusion and suggests headlines for future work
