Abstract The present study was carried out to study the effect of some currently licensed veterinary NSAIDs (Non Steroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs), meloxicam and flunixin in treatment of experimentally induced arthritis. Moreover, their effects on some hematological, biochemical parameters and effects on immunoglobulins (IgG and IgM) in rabbits. In addition, histopathological examination of tissue specimens from stifle joint will be performed.Thirty rabbits of either sex (1.5-2 kg B.wt) were used (1) Non infected treated with saline( 1ml/rabbit) intraperitoneally(control). (2)Expermentally infected with 1ml of fungal suspention (1x108yeasts/ml) intra-articularly. (3) Non infected treated with meloxicam(0.2 mg/kg s.c).(4) Non infected treated with flunixin(2 mg/kg i.m). (5) Expermentally infected and treated with meloxicam(0.2 mg/kg s.c). (6)Expermentally infected and treated with flunixin(2 mg/kg i.m)..The infected non treated group showed a significant increase in total leukocytic count, lymphocytic and eosinophilic count after one day of infection then there was a significant increase in total leukocytic and lymphocytic count. The treated groups with meloxicam and flunxinmeglumin show a significant decrease in total and differential leukocytic count. a significant increase in serum level of ALT after one day, one week and two weeks of infection, also a significant increase in serum level of AST after two weeks of infection. significant increase in serum IgG and IgM compared with that for control one. meloxicam showed a significant decrease then a significant increase in the levels of IgM and IgG. Meanwhile the treated group with flunixinmeglumine showed a significant increase after one day of treatment then there was a significant decrease in serum IgM and IgG after one andtwo weeks of treatment. a significant increase in serum urea and creatinine after one day, one week, and also after two weeks of infection. Microscopic examination of the group of rabbits that induced experimentally with candidal arthritis revealed necrotic chondrocytes with esinophilic aggregation and, erosion in articular cartilage with esinophilic inflammatory cells infiltration were seen .In addition, necrosis in bone with polymorph aggregation and formation of bony Meanwhile, meloxicam showing chronic arthritis with aggregation of round cells in synovial membrane sequestrum was noticed. In addition a colonies of candida were present with esinophilic hyphae. In the contrary, flunixin showed normal articular cartilage with normal trabecular bone and normal fibrofatty synovial membrane with only mild inflammation with minimal esinophilic infiltration. |
