Abstract

Acute myeloid leukaemia (AML ) is an abnormal clonal disorder , in which the malignant cell is blast that most often shows myeloid or monocytic differentiation . In about 5-10 % of cases , blasts have erythroid or megakaryocytic differentiation . CXCR4 promotes AML progression by allowing tumour cells to spread to organs where CXCL12 is expressed , and CXCl12 itself can stimulate survival and growth of neoplastic cells , Also , CXCL12 can promote tumour angiogenesis .
Very late amligem 4 ( VLA4 ) is a cell surface hetroterodimer in the integrin superfamily of leukocyte adhesion receptors and is generally expressed to some degree in acute myeloid leukemia . This work aimed at studying the role of CXCR4 and VLA4 as a prognostic marker in newly – diagnosed AML patients This study was conducted on 20 patients with newly – diagnosed acute myeloid leukaemia , patients were subjected to the following : 1- Complete history taking and general examination 2- Abdominal ultrasonography 3- Routine laboratory investigation , including Complete blood picture ESR & LDH determination Bone marrow aspiration and examination of stained films Cytochemistry ( As sudan balck B & myeloperoxidase )Immunopheno typing of all cases by flow cytometry using leukaemia panel.
