Abstract

Mobile Ad hoc Networks (MANETs) have the ability to deploy a network where a traditional network infrastructure environment cannot possibly be deployed. These networks are weak against many types of attacks; one of these attacks is the black hole attack that can be considered as one of the most important security problems in MANETs. To prevent this attack, a modified AODV routing protocol named Intrusion Avoidance System for AODV protocol (IASAODV) is proposed. The proposed algorithm can be divided into two major. The first stage is based on RREQ and RREP messages that are exchanged in the route discovery. The second stage is based on the Destination Sequence Number (DSN) of the RREP message and the number of RREP message (s) calculated in the first stage.
The conducted experimental results showed that the performance metrics: Packet Delivery Ratio (PDR), Throughput and Normalized Routing Load (NRL) values of the proposed protocol were better than the corresponding values of both AODV and IDSAODV protocols.
