Abstract

Scorpion envenomation and its consequences represent a serious public health problem in many tropical and subtropical countries and an important cause of life-threatening emergency particularly in children during summer time High prevalence, severity of symptoms and difficulty of treatment are problems of scorpion sting. Every year, more than 1 million cases of scorpion envenomation are reported worldwide.Egypt is one of the countries of the arid regions extending from North Africa to India, inhabited by dangerous and highly mortal scorpions.Scorpion sting envenomation is a public health problem in Egypt and is an important cause of morbidity mainly among preschool and school aged children. In the region of Assiut, in the South of Egypt, the annual incidence and mortality by scorpion stings are respectively 88 and 5.5 per 100,000 inhabitants
