Abstract

The shoulder joint is the most highly mobile joint in the body. Because of this large range of motion and the shallow configuration of the joint the shoulder is one of the most unstable and frequently dislocatable joint in the body accounting for nearly 50% of all dislocations. Out of these shoulder dislocations 90% develop recurrent instability in patients younger than 30 years. Glenohumeral instability is the inability to maintain the humeral head in the glenoid fossa In traumatic anterior shoulder dislocation (the commonest) the head of the humerus is displaced antero-inferiorly stretching the capsule and IGHL causing avulsion of the antero-inferior part of the glenoid labrum (a lesion named Bankart). This lesion is the commonest lesion in recurrent dislocation shoulder. It is sometimes associated with other lesions mentioned before.
