Abstract

This study aimed at to assess impact of internet usage on the Student Attitude and Academic Achievement at two Faculties in Beni Suif University. The design was A correlation descriptive design was utilized. The present study was conducted at two faculties (Faculty of Nursing and Faculty of Veterinary Medicine) in Beni Suif University. A random sample of 50% of the total number of the students were selected from all years of studies randomly from the two faculties (Faculty of Nursing and Faculty of Veterinary edicine).Total sample size were 450 students(261 students from Faculty of Nursing) and (l89students from Faculty of Veterinary Medicine). The data were collected using four questionnaire sheets the Socio- demographic data sheet used by the researcher to collect the necessary data about the subjects. It included age, sex, marital status, and daily hours of using net, reason of internet usage. Psychological measurement of Internet addiction: this measurement was deyeloped by (Yusuf, 2007) in order to measure the addictive behavior of the internet (appendix II). It contains of 15 questions. Attitude toward internet use scale the Internet Attitude Scale is a modified version of the Computer Attitude Scale, developed and validated by Nickell and Pinto (1986)(appendix TTT). In order to measure attitudes towards the Internet, the word ’computer’ was replaced with ’the Internet’ throughout the scale. The IAS consists of 20 statements. Academic achievement scale this scale constructed and developed by researcher to evaluate academic achievement for students. The scale is composed of 5 elements; every element consisted of 9 items or questions. The results of the current study showed that:There were 81.8% female students and 18.2% male students. Most of the Students use the Internet of not more than two hours perDaysMost of the students reported that, they have been using the internetmore than one year. There is a negative correlation between total internet addiction and total internet attitude. Gaining scientific information is the most popular use of the Internet among students in both facultiesMost of the students were not smoked and not addicted to any other drugsThere is no significant difference in age or gender of students with Internet addiction, internet attitude and academic achievement.There was a highly statistically significant correlation between internet
addiction and academic achievement.
