Abstract

Hymenolepis nana is the smallest of the human tapeworms causing hymenolepiasis nana or the dwarf worm tapeworm infection in man. It is a cosmopolitan in distribution, but common in warm countries especially among children. Infection by this worm normally induces disturbance in the intestinal digestion and absorption, histopathological changes were detected in the intestinal epithelium, causing malnourishment and impairment of physical and mental development in infected host. Heavy infection in small children may cause nervous manifestations.
