Abstract

The Patients with chronic renal failure undergoing dialysis have to face the Burdens of long-term illness and numerous treatment associated stressors. The ability of these patients to cope with and adapt to these stresses has an important influence on physical and psychological well-being Aim of the study: The aim of this research is to assess the effect of guided imagery as therapeutic strategy in reduction of psychological stress among patients with chronic renal failure Methods: Quasi experimental design study used. The target of this study consists of 40 patients with chronic renal failure on Benha University Hospital in dialysis unit. Tools for data were collected on Socio-demographic data sheet and the stress scale this tool was developed by (Jacob, 2005). Results: chronic renal failure patients had significant level of stress related to their illness and there was significant reduction in the level of stress after the Practice of guided imagery The study recommended: Study of guided imagery can be included in the nursing curriculum, Practice of guided imagery can be introduced in the inpatient and outpatient settings of the hospital, before, during and offer various medical procedures, Guided imagery can be made a part of daily routine of students and staff, which would help them to overcome their academic as well as occupational stress greatly and a study can be carried out to find out the effectiveness of guided imagery on the occupational stress of employees of different fields
