Abstract

Solvent leaching of rare earth elements and uranium from phosphate and black shale Abu-Tartur plateau Carried out via acid curing of these ores. Different conditions of acid curing were performed to each ore about, 550 kg/t sulfuric acid, 55 kg/t nitric acid, 2h curing time and 110Cº for solubilized of uranium and rare earth elements from phosphate sample, whereas 750 kg/t sulfuric acid, 75 kg/t nitric acid, 2h curing time and 110Cº for solubilized of uranium and rare earth elements from black shale sample.
Extraction efficiency of uranium from phosphate rock reached 92.3%. via solvent leaching with 20 gm ammonium nitrate, 5 % TOA in xylene at phase ratio 1:3 and a flow rate 1 ml/ min. 4contacts with solvent. On the other hand stripped with 5 M sulfuric acid at an A/O phase ratio of 4:1 and shaking time of 10 minis found adequate to reach 98.5% stripping efficiency. Finally precipitation of uranium as uranyl peroxide by H2O2 at pH 2 is followed.
