Abstract
Discussion and Experimental In the first chapter, the use of saccharide deriva- tives in the light of their importance in the synthesis of heterocycles are discussed as well as the chemistry of dehydro-L-ascorbic acid bis(hydrazones).
Chapter II is a discussion of the work carried out by the candidate which consists of three parts. In the first part, the candidate succeded in the synthesis of a new heterocyclic hydrazine, namely, 5-(D-arabino-tetrahydroxy- butyl)- different carbonyl It was allowed to react with compounds such as benzaldehyde, p-chlorobenzaldehyde, o-hydroxybenzaldehyde, anisaldehyde, cinnamaldehyde, fur- fural and thiophene-2-carboxaldehyde to give the correspon- ding N-5-(D-arabino-tetrahydroxybutyl)-2-methyl-3-furoyl] hydrazones (II).
