Abstract

A literature survey of hydrazone and hydrazone-oxime complexes and of physicochemical measurements applied in
their study was made.
Preparation of diacetylmonoxime hydrazone ligands and their corresponding metallic complexes, working procedures and experimental techniques were discribed.
Pure solid Cu(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Ca(II), Zn(II), Fe(III) or Au(III) diacetylmonoxime phenylhydrazone, thio- semicarbazone or hydrazone complexes formed in simple stoichiometrio ratios, were isolated from ethanolic solution. Mono-ligand complexes were only obtained for diacetylmonoxime hydrazone with Cu(II) and Ni(II). Complex formation took place in almost all cases by just simple coordination as indicated by elemental microanalysis. Diacetylmonoxime thiosemicarbazone only could behave as an acid interaction with Cu(II) and Co(II) halides.

Electrical conductance of solutions of the metal salt, ligand and of mixtures of the two in different molar ratios were measured at various molar concentrations. The observed large increase or decrease in the conductance of the mixtures indicated complex formation. The increased conductance was attributed to solution effects or the liberation of highly mobile H+ ions (in systems involving diacetylmonoxime thiosemicarbazone and Cu(II) or Co(II) halides.
