Abstract It is very important to calculate the power of an intraocular lens before implantation so as to reduce the undesirable post-operative refraction errors. In this study 43 high myopic cataractous eyes had undergone coaxial phacoemulsification and posterior chamber foldable lens in the bag implantation after calculation of the power of the IOL. Patients were examined preoperative complete ophthalmological examination and data were recorded. In this study we use the A scan ultrasonography for axial length measurement using E-Z SCAN AB5500 biometry. We estimate the dioptric power of the cornea using keratometer Topcon DM – 4. The anterior chamber depth was measured although .We evaluate the accuracy of Haigis formula and compare their result with SRK/T formula. The surgery was performed using coaxial phacoemulsification and the patients were followed up for six weeks after which their refraction and full ophthalmological examination estimated. After six weeks we calculate the postoperative spherical equivalent refraction. Statistical analysis was done to evaluate the accuracy of Haigis formula and we compare the errors in the result with errors of SRK/T formula. In our study Haigis formula mean error result of the patient (±SD) was -0.03 (±0.74) with no significant p value. SRK/T formula mean errors result of the patient (±SD) was 0.11 (±0.79) with no significant p value. There was comparative statistically significant association between Haigis formula results and SRK/T formula results with p value 0.025 We found the Haigis formula more accurate than SRK/T formula in high myopic catractous patient and we recommend using it in high myopia. |
