Abstract

The transition to college poses many challenges for students. Their newfound independence coupled with the social and physical environmental changes, may expose them to undesirable eating habits, which results in malnutrition especially weight gain. Medical students are thought to be a significant proportion of the socio-economic elite of tomorrow and promoters for general population, thus their habits and behaviors are most likely to become the norm. Universities and, especially, medical schools represent a great opportunity for focused nutritional education that can promote healthy dietary habits and life style pattern. Aim of the study was to: Study the effect of nutrition education program on knowledge, attitudes and behavior of medical students of Faculty of Medicine, Tanta University. Methodology: Our study was a cross sectional quasi-experimental (pre and post-test model). Conducted at Faculty of Medicine, Tanta University and included 420 medical students from 1st and 2nd academic year. A random sample was taken from 1st and 2nd year medical students, using cluster sampling method during the academic years 2012/2013.
