Abstract

The present work is a stratigraphical and geochemical study of the Senonian strata and fossils exposed at Abu Roash area, Western Desert.
One hundred and fourty one well-preserved shells belong to families Inoceramidae, Plicatulidae and Ustreidae were subjected to geochemical analyses for their Mg, Fe, Si, Al, Cu, Mn and St contents.
In addition, twenty rock samples representing all the Senonian stratigraphic section exposed at the studied area were also subjected to geochemical analyses.
The chemical composition of the studied shells and rocks revealed that the amounts of Mg and Sr increase from Lover to Upper Senonian, on the other hand the amounts of Mn, Al, Si and Fe decrease from Louer to Upper Senonian.
Twenty five thin sections in the representative specimens of families Inoceranidee, Plicatulidae And Ostreiche vere prepared and microscopically studied. The study of the wall structure indicated that the members of family Ostreidae are completely composed of foliated calcite, where the shells of Inoceramidae.
