Abstract

The present work aimed to evaluate the effect the natural phytogenic sources being of L- carnitine, Avocado, Almond, Grape seeds &Mixture of all plants and seeds on hypercholesterolemic rats. For this purpose, the studies included about 35 rats about 150/200(g) weight each firstly rats .Rats were fed on normal (basal) diet for acclimatization . The animals were then divided to 7 equal groups, one was kept as control- ve group (Group1), while the other 6 groups were fed on rats meal of high fat and cholesterol by 10% of the on basal diet for two weeks to induce hypercholesterolemia these groups were as fellows: Group (2): Control positive (+ve), in which hypercholesterolemic which rats were fed on basal diet for 28 days. Group (3): Hypercholesterolemic rats were fed on basal diet containing 7.5 % L- carnitine for 28 days. Group (4): Hypercholesterolemic rats were fed on basal diet containing 7.5% Avocado for 28 days. Group (5): Hypercholesterolemic rats were fed on basal diet containing 7.5% Almond for 28 days. Group (6): Hypercholesterolemic rats were fed on basal diet containing 7.5% Grape seeds for 28 days. Group (7): Hypercholesterolemic rats were fed on basal diet containing 7.5% combination of all plants for 28 days(the mixure). SUMMARY 148 At the end of experimental period (28 day), animal were sacrificed. Blood samples were collected to determine the following parameters in serum: *level of serum liver enzymes (ALT, AST and ALP). *Total cholesterol, triglycerides, lipoprotein fractions (HDL-c, LDL-c and VLDL-c), uric acid, urea nitrogen, creatinine. Liver, kidney and heart were kept in (10%) formalin solution for histopathological examination. The results could be summarized as follows: 1- In hypercholesterolemic rats BWG, FI and FER were increased. 2- Feeding on basal diet contained L- carnitine, Avocado, Almond, Grape seeds &Mixture of all plants and seeds (as7.5%) corrected the changes of BWG, FI and FER. 3- Inflicting with hypercholesterolemia raised the internal organ weights while the reverse indicated on feeding with L- carnitine, Avocado, Almond, Grape seeds &Mixture of all plants and seeds (as7.5%). 4- Hypercholesterolemia rats increased TC, TG, LDL, & VLDL ,but decreased the serum HDL. 5- Rats fed on Mixture of all plants and seeds (group7) showed the best treatment for lowering TC. 6- The best serum (T.G.) was recorded for group 7 (hypercholesterolemic rats fed on mixture of all plants) when compared to control (-) group. 7- The best serum (HDL-c) and AI was observed for group 4 (hypercholesterolemic rats fed on Avocado) when compared to control (+) group. 8- Rats fed on group 4(Avocado) & group 7(mixture of plants) recorded the best treatments for loweing serum (LDL-c). 9- Hypercholesterolemic rats fed on group7 diet (mixture of plants) recorded the best treatment for considering serum (VLDL-c). 10- Inflicting with hypercholesterolemic raised the activities of serum GOT, GPT and ALP. Feeding with L- carnitine, Avocado, Almond, Grape seeds &Mixture of all plants and seeds (as7.5%) reduced these levels. 11- The best treatment to correct the level of GOT (AST) enzyme was observed for (group 6) grape seeds. 12- The maximum improvement of serum GPT was found for (group7) mixture of plants7. 5%. 13- Rats fed on diet contained L- carnitine indicated the best treatment for correct serum ALP level, followed by mixure of all plants diet . 14- Maximum improvement of serum creatinine was found for group6 (basal diet + grape seeds). 15- The best treatment for improving the level of serum urea was observed for group 7(basal diet +mixture of all plants). 16- Hypercholesterolemic rats fed on diet contained grape seeds showed the better treatment for correcting serum uric acid. 17- from histopathological results, liver ,heart and kidney section of all hypercholesterolemic rats then fed on all tested plants showed tendency an improvement of structure changed by hypercholesterolemia (as compared to C +ve group, especially for rats group fed on the polyherbal formulation composed of all plants leaves. If seen possible that histopathological improvement was later than the biochemical paramerars.
