Purpose of the Study:
The current study aimed at investigating the effectiveness of a training program proposed for mothers and teachers of deaf children to face the abuse of such children and the effect of that program on improving those children’s social interaction.
Hypotheses of the Study:
1- There are statistically significant differences between the ranks of mean scores of the experimental group and those of the control group after the treatment on the scale of deaf child abuse in favor of the experimental group.
2- There are statistically significant differences between the ranks of mean scores of the experimental group in the pre and post measurement on the scale of deaf child abuse in favor of the post measurement.
3- There are no statistically significant differences between the ranks of mean scores of the experimental group in the post measurement and their ranks of mean scores in the follow-up measurement on the scale of deaf child abuse.
4- There are statistically significant differences between the ranks of mean scores of the experimental group (Mothers) and those of the control group (Mothers) after the treatment on the scale of social interaction in favor of the experimental group.
5- There are statistically significant differences between the ranks of mean scores of the experimental group (Mothers) in the pre and post measurement on the scale of social interaction in favor of the post measurement.
6- There are no statistically significant differences between the ranks of mean scores of the experimental group (Mothers) in the post measurement and their ranks of mean scores after one month of follow-up on the scale of social interaction.
7- There are statistically significant differences between the ranks of mean scores of the experimental group (Teachers) and those of the control group (Teachers) after the treatment on the scale of social interaction in favor of the experimental group.
8- There are statistically significant differences between the ranks of mean scores of the experimental group (Teachers) in the pre and post measurement on the scale of social interaction in favor of the post measurement.
9- There are no statistically significant differences between the ranks of mean scores of the experimental group (Teachers) in the post measurement and their ranks of mean scores after one month of follow-up on the scale of social interaction.
Methodology:
The researcher has adopted the experimental method in this study. The training program proposed for mothers and teachers is considered the independent variable, and both facing the deaf child abuse and improving their social interaction are the dependent ones.
Participants of the Study:
The participants of the study were 20 deaf children, their mothers and teachers. Those children range between 9 to 12 years of age. These groups are divided into six groups as follows:
- Experimental group 1 (10 deaf children).
- Experimental group 2 (10 mothers).
- Experimental group 3 (5 teachers).
- Control group 1 (10 deaf children).
- Control group 2 (10 mothers).
- Control group 3 (5 teachers).
These groups were matched in the chronological age, the educational level, the degree of hearing loss, the socio-economic level and the I.Q.
Tools of the Study:
1- Deaf child abuse rating scale (Prepared by Abd ElAziz Elshakhs, Amin Sabry & Rehab Ahmed, 2013).
2- Social interaction scale for deaf children, Parents Version and Teachers Version (Prepared by the researcher, 2013).
3- Social interaction scale for normal and exceptional children (Prepared by/ Abd Elaziz Elshakhs, 2014).
4- Family socio-economic level scale (Prepared by/ Abd Elaziz Elshakhs, 2013).
5- Stanford-Binet intelligence scale for children (4th Edition).
300
6- A training program for mothers and teachers of deaf children who are abused to face that problem and to improve those children’s social interaction (Prepared by the researcher, 2013).
The Statistical Technique:
The researcher adopted the following statistical techniques:
1- Cronbach’s Alpha Coefficient for measuring the reliability of the study scale.
2- Pearson Product-Moment Correlation Coefficient for measuring the internal validity of the study scale.
3- Mann-Whitney Test to identify the significant differences between the independent groups.
4- Wilcoxon Test to identify the significant differences between the correlated groups.
