Abstract

Field experiments were carried out at El-Gemmeiza Agricultural Research Station, El-Gharbia, Egypt during the two growing winter seasons of 2009 / 2010 and 2010 / 2011 in order to study the effect of nitrogen fertilizer levels (0, 30, 45 and 60 kg N / faddan) on seed and straw yield and its components, as well as technological characters for flax varieties (Sakha 1, Sakha 2, Sakha 3, Sakha 4 Giza 10, Blenka). Moreover, anatomy of the main stem was also investigated A split plot design experiment in three replications was adopted. The main plot was the varieties and sub-plot was the different levels of nitrogen fertilizers Data were collected on crop rates at (30 – 45), (75 – 90), (105 -120) days after sowing, also straw yield and its related characters i.e. plant height, technical stem length, diameter of main stem, straw yield / plant, straw yield / faddan, fiber yield / faddan, seed yield and its related characters i.e. number of apical branches / plant, number of capsules / plant, number of seeds / capsule, seed index (1000 seed weight), seed yield / plant, seed yield / faddan and technological charactersi.e. oil percentage, fiber percentage, fiber fineness, fiber length. Anatomicalparameters were studied i.e. diameter of section, thickness of fiber region, number of fiber bundles / stem, thickness of secondary xylem, diameter of pith The obtained results indicated that there are significant differences for all the studied varieties in all the studied characters, except that of crop growth rate at (30 45) and (75 – 90) days and number of seeds in capsule which showed no significant effect in this respect.
