Abstract Glutamate kinase activity was tested in various crude extracts of C3-plants under heavy metals stress marrow cotyledons expressed the highest level of the activity. Jasmonic acid, gibberellic acid, benzyl adenine, polyamines and zeatine induced glutamate kinase activity. Spermidine was the best polyamine to induce the enzyme activity. Ni2+ and Hg2+ inhibited glutamate kinase activity in a concentration dependent manner. 5-aminolevulinic acid, humic acid , coronatine and algal extracts protected partially glutamate kinase from the toxicity of Ni2+ when induced in the growth medium reduced glutathione and ascorbate were increased under stress by Ni2. Stress by Ni2 resulted in the increase of the activities of ascorbat peroxidase, superoxide dismutase and glutathione reductase. Ni2+ caused lipid peroxidation and protein carbonylation in marrow cotyledons Both lipid peroxidation and carbonylation of protein were alleviated partially by including algal extracts, 5-aminolevulinic acid, humic acid and coronatine. |
