Abstract Semiconductor quantum dots (QDs) have attracted considerable attention for both fundamental research and technical applications, due to their unique size dependent optical and electronic properties. These nanomaterials are potentially applicable in electronic, optoelectronic, and photonic devices. Moreover, they can be widely employed in biological and medical applications. The use of semiconducting quantum dots as novel inorganic luminescence probes have gained a lot of research interests over the past few years Coumarin and its derivatives are biologically very active and have particular importance for biological and medical fluorescence labelling studies. It was found that the enhanced activities are dependent on the coumarin nucleus. Biological significance of these compounds includes anti-bacterial, antithrombotic and vasodilatory, anti-mutagenic, lipoxygenase and cyclooxygenase inhibition, scavenging of reactive oxygen species, and anti-tumorigenic. |
