Abstract

circuits ond standRrd practices have been developed.
Zener diodes and m11gnetic omplifiers are commonly used
in connection with power supplies of very low voltages
anfi high current. Glow-discharge tubes ore used to provide
o convenient method of controlling voltages up to 300 volts
and currents to 25 milliompers. For more precise regulation
or for currents in excess of those capable of being handled
by glow tubesalone, the conventional series or shunt type
circuits hove been developed.
When mention is made of a gaseous diode used as o
voltage regulator, the scientest usually envisionn the
fomilier ”Glow - Discharge” type of tube such as the VRtubes,
the OB2, or the more recent 5651, published as
o voltage reference, and other related types. Much less
widely understood, is another group of gaseous diodes
equolly useful as vol tRge regula.tors nnd references, which
operate in the corona discharge region rother than in
the glow r<egion.
