Abstract iios Jeen :Jo common nnd i.mportEmt tnat certain precferred (l-15) circuits ond standRrd practices have been developed. Zener diodes and m11gnetic omplifiers are commonly used in connection with power supplies of very low voltages anfi high current. Glow-discharge tubes ore used to provide o convenient method of controlling voltages up to 300 volts and currents to 25 milliompers. For more precise regulation or for currents in excess of those capable of being handled by glow tubesalone, the conventional series or shunt type circuits hove been developed. When mention is made of a gaseous diode used as o voltage regulator, the scientest usually envisionn the fomilier ”Glow - Discharge” type of tube such as the VRtubes, the OB2, or the more recent 5651, published as o voltage reference, and other related types. Much less widely understood, is another group of gaseous diodes equolly useful as vol tRge regula.tors nnd references, which operate in the corona discharge region rother than in the glow r<egion.
