Abstract The present work was conducted to elucidate the biochemical adaptation of some desert species which belong to different life-forms: perennial herbs (Plantago albicanslip. al”), deciduous subshrubs (Gymnocarpos decandrum ” evergreen subshrubs (Ononis vaginalis - - 110. va”) and succulent shrubs (Zygophyllum album ”Z. al”). These species exhibit different modes of droughtresistance P. ~ evades drought by shedding all its above-ground organs during the dry period, G. de loses most of its leaves in response to drought, O. va sheds its mature leaves ~ the dry season, and the leaves of Z. al become succulent. The evaluation of the biochemical adaptation of these species was carried. |
