Abstract

This study was conducted in El-Arish General hospital, North Sinai Governorate, on 258 patients with acute coronary syndrome who presented to the hospital during March, 2012, to February, 2013, in order to study the prevalence of such a disease within the governorate as a whole and within its rural and urban regions as well as the distribution of the different risk factors of acute coronary syndrome among the patients in order to draw a portrait of the acute coronary syndrome in North Sinai Governorate.Among the 258 patients, there were 105 cases (40.7%) diagnosed as STEMI, 89 cases (34.5%) were UA, and 64 cases (24.8%) were NSTEMI. We had nearby values in the urban regions as we had 223 patients of acute coronary syndrome. 88 patients of them (39.5%) were diagnosed as STEMI, 80 patients (35.9%) were UA and 55 patients (24.7%) were NSTEMI while in the rural regions we had 35 patients. 17 patients of them (48.6%) were STEMI which is much higher than we have in the urban regions on the expense of UA which represented by 9 patients (25.7%). NSTEMI represented in a nearby percentage as in the urban regions, 9 patients (25.7%).The annual incidence, prevalence, of acute coronary syndrome throughout the whole governorate was 65 per 100,000 of people while in the urban region of El-Arish city was 139 per 100,000 of people which is the highest rate if compared to the rural regions which had an annual incidence, prevalence, of 15 per 100,000 of people. Within the rural regions, we had regions of an intermediate annual incidence, prevalence, as Shaikh Zoyed with 28 per 100,000 of people, Nekhel with 26 per 100,000 of people, and Rafah with 20 per 100,000 of people where the lowest annual incidence, prevalence, regions were El-Hasanah, 7 per 100,000 of people, and Bair El-Abd, 1 per 100,000 of people.
