Abstract HISTORICAL REVIEW The Llisorder termed mixed connective tissue o!iscase refers to a syndrome first described by c3llarp et al (1971), in which the common finding was L!1c presence of high concentration of serum antibody which react with saline extractable nuclear antigen. The clinical characteristics of the patients with mixed connective tissue disease include a combination of features similar to those of systemic lupus erythematosus, scleroderma and polymyositis, and it is characterized by an excellent response to corticosteroid therapy and a favourable prognosis. (Sharp et al, 1972) Klinge in 1933 was the first one who proposed the idea of systemic involvement of the entire connective tissues of the human body in rl1eumatic arthritis ;we! other rheumatic diseases. ln subsequent years there was intensive studies abouL the collagen diseases. Hargraves et al, (1948) published their discovery of the LE cell phenomenon and llench et al in (1949) published their work on the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis by cortisone. |
