Abstract

Postinflammatory hyperpigmentation, a reactive hyper-melanosis and sequela of various inflammatory cutaneous disorders, it can arise in all skin types, but more frequently affects skin color patients. PIH typically manifests as macules or patches in the same distribution as the initial inflammatory process.Chemical peeling induces destruction of portions of the epidermis and/or dermis with subsequent regeneration and improvement of skin texture.Various peeling agents have been used in treatment of PIH, either alone or in combination with other treatment modalities. Salicylic acid is a betahydroxy derivative of benzoic acid and represents a carboxy acid attached to an aromatic alcohol phenol. It induces keratolysis through breaking intercellular lipid linkages. Tretinoin (all-trans retinoic acid), a vitamin A analog.Tretinoin 0.05%–0.1% reduces pigmentation by inhibiting tyrosinase transcription, as well as by interrupting melanin synthesis.
