Abstract

Despite nephrotic syndrome is one of the most common disease under researches and present in large number of children , it has a wide variety in response to treatment and management of its symptoms and signs , usually we firstly treat this case with corticosteroids and then wait to see the results then we select the cases that may need for biopsy , this is the classic way in the treatment of nephrotic syndrome but as corticosteroid has many complications and some cases with nephrotic syndrome not respond to that treatment so many researches and our research were done to suspect the cases that may need for renal biopsy from the start with any medications.
This study was done on 50 children with nephrotic syndrome with special criteria in the form of:
Age less than 1 year or more than 10 years.Have one or more of that; haematuria, raised renal chemistry, hypertension, low serum complement, steroid resistant, has a family history or has a symptoms of systemic disease.
Between these cases 22 are males 28 are females age range between 7 months and 15 years , the weight between 7 and 46. All these cases are subjected to full history (personal, family, past and history of present illness), full examinations, investigations and finally to renal biopsy.
The results of our study show that:
Haematuria, raised renal chemistry, hypertension, reduced serum complement, oliguria, pyuria, symptoms of systemic disease; resistance to steroid, family history of renal disease and age below one year or more than 10 years when present gives indication for renal biopsy as it is usually accompanied with pathology other than MCNS.
