Abstract

Our study was carried out on 46 patients with symptomatic chronic calcular cholecystitis , Thirty two of them had HCV infection, among them 8 had liver cirrhosis. Those patients with HCV infection were compared with a control group (without HCV infection) which included 14 patients. We compared the safety of open and laparoscopic cholecystectomy on those patients with HCV infection, Also; we tried to find out the best method for the preoperative evaluation of the patients with HCV who were undergone cholecystectomy by either method. None of our patients died during a follow up period of 18 months. Our results revealed that there was significant postoperative deterioration of the MELD score but not the CTP score in patients with HCV infection. Also; our study showed that individual variables which were evaluated preoperatively like bilirubin significantly increased postoperatively in patients with lower MELD score (6-9) than patients with higher MELD score (10-19) in the postoperative period, Also; we found that INR significantly increased postoperatively in patients with HCV infection either evaluated by MELD or CTP scores.
