Abstract

Uninterruptible power supply (UPS) function is to supply an emergent power to the critical equipments, such as computers, hospital equipments, process control systems, and communication equipments. Because of the commercial line does not guarantee the typical requirements for the critical equipments. So UPS function is to overcome the challenges which face the commercial line, these disturbances are:
1. Transients
2. Momentary over- or under-voltage
3. Sustained under-voltage
4. Generation of harmonics or distortion of wave forms
5. Electromagnetic interference (EMI) or radio frequency interference (RFI)
These systems considered nonlinear and variable structure, so it is difficult to control and difficult to get the required specifications. The goal of this thesis is to design a control system for UPS inverter system to obtain a minimum tracking error, and insensitive to load variations with nonlinear loads, robust, and with harmonic distortion, and to use a commercial microcontroller.
This thesis does the following:
1- Study different UPS systems, and related subjects such as power electronics, and microcontroller unit.
2- Design and implementation of hardware circuits using microcontroller to get UPS inverter system meets the required performance and do the specified control.
3- Apply classical controllers such as PD, PID, and SMC using microcontroller and simulate these systems on simulation program, after that apply these controllers on the real system, and get experimental results.
4- Apply fuzzy logic control, and nonlinear PID-fuzzy control on UPS inverter system and simulate on simulation program, after that apply these controllers on the real system, and get experimental results.
