Abstract The major attraction points of adsorption cooling or refrigeration technology are that it is noiseless, non-corrosive, environmentally friendly and powered entirely or partly by low grade energy such as solar energy, bioenergy, and low-grade waste heat, etc. Therefore, adsorption systems have attracted research interests as an alternative cooling solution. However, the main limitation in the commercial application of adsorption systems is its rather low coefficient of performance. In the present study, an experimental unit has been designed and installed to evaluate the effect of proposed design and operating parameters on the performance of the experimental unit. The experimental set up consists of insulated evaporator, insulated generator, vacuum pump, blower, electrical heater and manual valves. The system is suitably instrumented to measure the effect of different operational parameters and system design on the performance of the experimental system. The effect of many parameters on the performance of the system is experimentally tested. These parameters are: 1. Initial evaporator temperature. 2. Silica gel initial temperature. 3. Hot air temperature. 4. Hot air mass flow rate. 5. Evaporator pressure. |
