Abstract

A desiccant dehumidification system using random packed bed for air dehumidification has been designed, constructed and experimentally tested. Calcium chloride water solution is applied as the working desiccant. The present analysis is used for realing the governing equations to predict the variation of the humidity ratio, flow rate and temperature of air , desiccant solution temperature, concentration and flow rate along the dehumidifier height in the dehumidifier, packing height as a function of moisture removal. The theoretical study is carried out to evaluate the dehumidification rate of air and the effectiveness in a dehumidifier packed tower. Also, the theoretical results of the presented model are compared with results of other investigator for validation purpose whereas good agreement is found.The experimental study is carried out to evaluate the dehumidification rate of air in a dehumidifier packed tower by varying the inlet air humidity ratio and temperature, flow rate of air and desiccant solution, inlet liquid desiccant temperature and concentration. Results of the model are plotted and compared with experimental data. from the experimental and theoretical studies the following conclusion can be summarized:1. The removed moisture percentage from air to solution increases from 30% up to 55% with the air humidity ratio increase and decreased by 13% with the air and desiccant temperatures increase.
