Abstract

Women constitute half of the society .They are mother , daughter , sister , wife . They are considered central stone of the progress of peoples .So, health organizations must take care of woman’s health rights that provide health services at a high level by raising the efficiency of health providers . Women , to gain full health rights must be aware of them to know those rights in order to claim them and raise the degree of satisfaction to save their health which is considered the nucleus of a healthy society. The aims of this study were to identify if the hospitalized women in obstetric and gynecological departments know their health rights, assess if the health care providers (physician & nurses) in obstetric and gynecological departments apply women’ health rights and assess the effect of the neglecting the hospitalized women’s rights on their physical ,psychological and social well being . To achieve the foregoing aims ,it is crucial to answer the following questions : 1-Do the hospitalized women know their health rights? 2-Are there lacks of application of women rights during hospitalization in obstetric and gynecological department ? 3-Do the health care providers of obstetric and gynecological departments follow the patients’ rights during dealing with hospitalized women? Summary Chapter 7 120 This study was carried out in the obstetric and gynecological department at Menoufia university hospital and Shebien El-kom teaching hospital. Subjects of the study consists of three groups as follows: -First group :1- (180) women attended obstetric and gynecological departments of the university hospital and Shebin El Kom teaching hospital . Convenient sample accepted to participate in the study. -Second group: Health care providers (38)nurses in the above mentioned settings and physicians were excluded. -Third group: Hospital workers in the above mentioned settings . Three tools were utilized to collect the data pertinent to the study .They included the following : 1-Structured interview questionnaire: This was developed by the researcher based on review of literature to collect the necessary data from the women in sample . Part (1) :Socio demographic characteristics of the sample were included: age ,address, period of marriage etc….. Part (2) : Information and knowledge of women about their health rights in obstetric and gynecological departments. Part (3):Questions about women’s satisfaction regarding health services in the hospital and the impact in their health. 2- Observation checklist: for health care providers (nurses) in obstetric and gynecological departments of the university hospital and Shebin El kom teaching hospital as regards applying the womens’ health rights(During collecting study data using observational checklist of health care providers (nurses). Summary Chapter 7 121 3- Observation checklist: for the workers of obstetric and gynecological departments of the university hospital and Shebin El kom teaching hospital as regards applying the womens’health rights. Limitation of the study The researcher could not collect intended data because the physicians rotation time was about 8.30 a.m. and 8 p.m. which interferes with the researcher’s time of collecting data. The researcher took the application of women rights for doctors only from the point of view of women about physicians performance . The main findings of this study were : 1) There was poor knowledge on the part of women regarding health rights(92.9%) . 2) In the current study the overall satisfaction was less than half of women(46.1%) and slightly more than half of sample (53.9%) were unsatisfied about the health services. Only slightly more than half of women became healthy(58.7%) .Some others became more ill (13.2%)and some other women stooped receiving treatment because of high cost of hospitalization (28.1%). 3) The performance of nurses in the current study was poor regarding most of the women rights (57%) except right (to keep patient’s information in secrete manner), (the patient right to have clean health setting and sterile equipments), right (to considerate &respectful care),and patient right( to know that she will share in scientific research) where the nurses’ performance was had good/very good.4) About more than half of workers applied women’s health rights(54%). Based on the previous conclusion the following recommendation are made : 1) The ministry of health improve the knowledge of women about health rights also increase the number of doctors and nurses to cover all health services of women which should be free for the majority of them. 2) Many programs should be done for improving the empowerment of woman’s roles and rights especially health rights and the organizations in the community should support leaders in woman’s rights .3) Medical & nursing education programs should not only be taught theoretically but also practically on woman’s health rights and how nurses and doctors should comply with caring of women .4) The ministry of health should give protocol for every hospital include woman’s health rights and clear responsibility of doctors and nurses .5) An orientation program should be performed for the newly appointed nurses and doctors to provide them with the needed information about medical and nursing ethics and hospital’s policies related to patient’s rights. 6) Strict supervision , guidance ,direction , control and teaching and training program by qualified nurses ,doctors and workers should take place for improving quality of care of women
