Abstract

This study was carried by using (Malathion) as organophosphorous insecticide due to the world announcement about the side effects of this insecticide , and also is continued to be used in Egypt. So we considered that usage of the extract Echium humile may succeed to ameliorate its side effects. This study was done on 56 male albino rats . The animals were divided into four main groups : the 1st group (Control group) ,the 2nd group ( malathion) treated group, the 3rd group(Echium humile) treated group, the 4th group (Silymarin) treated group, the 5th group ( Malathion + Echium humile extract ) treated grou ,the 6th group (malathion + Silymarin )treated group , the 7th group (Malathion + Atropin sulphate ) treated group The 8th group (Malathion + Echium humile extract + Sylimarin) treated group . The groups treated with Malathion showed elevation in serum glucose , urea, uric acid, creatinine ,Cholesterol , Tri glyceride, low density lipoprotein (LDL), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) level while other values like high density lipoprotein (HDL), albumin, cholinesterase(ChE), , hemoglobin (Hb) %, white blood cells (WBCs), red blood cells (RBCs) and platelets decreased significantly, while coadministration of Echium humile extract with malathion succeed to ameliorate these values greatly. In conclusion, this study obviously demonstrated that pretreatment with Echium humile extract significantly attenuated the physiological alterations induced by malathion.
