Abstract
Group technology concept, as a project management technique, aims to reduce the production period, which will reflect positively on the productivity of Egyptian shipyards.
The present work introduces the implementation of group technology concept based upon the work breakdown structure approach. A certain approach of production distribution, as a concept of group technology , is proposed in this work to solve the problem of inclining productivity of Egyptian shipyards by exploiting the short distance between shipyards in Egypt. Microsoft project software is also used to calculate the manufacturing period in the light of the collected data of the case study.
This calculated period is adapted using a new approach of productivity measurement to evaluate the productivity parameters in term of time and cost , which are required to accomplish one compensated gross tonnage.
