Abstract The current study aimed to investigate the effect of authentic performance tasks on developing experimental preparatory language school pupils’ analytical skill in drama. Fifty pupils enrolled in second year preparatory at Dar El Tarbia Experimental Language School, Shebin El Kom, Menoufia were the participants of this study. The researcher designed two equivalent versions of an analysis skill to measure the pupils’ analytical skill test in drama to be used as a pre and post test, a scoring rubric to be used for the grading of pupils’ performance on the test, four authentic performance tasks to develop the pupils’ analytical skill in drama, a rubric for each task to be used in grading the pupils’ work and a teacher’s guide for using the authentic performance tasks. The data obtained were statistically analyzed. Findings revealed that the authentic performance tasks were effective in developing the analytical skill of experimental preparatory language school pupils.
