Abstract This thesis targets the development and enhancement of image inpainting, also known as image completion, algorithms. Image inpainting is a challenging research topic in the field of image processing and computer vision. Image inpainting aims to fill missing pixels in unknown regions of an image and restoring lost parts of an image and reconstructing them based on the background information. The term inpainting is derived from the ancient art of restoring image by professional image restorers. Digital Image Inpainting tries to imitate this process and perform the inpainting automatically. It is important topic in many fields such as computer graphics, image editing, film postproduction, image restoration. The inpainting task is far from being an easy accomplishment; it is still a challenging problem In This thesis, we first present a new algorithm for image completion that benefits from the idea that the human eye is more sensitive to uniform region with less details, while it is less sensitive to crowded regions with more details. This algorithm has proved to produce highly desirable results. Secondly, we propose a new general inapainting algorithm hypothesis to produce efective results for all type of image scenes, and we propose a new algorithm for a specific scene type, whose main features are the existence of buildings and parking cars. |
