Abstract

Determination of risk factors for intractability may help us to understand aetiology and also aids in early detection of resistant epilepsy and choose the appropriate treatment.
This study was conducted to determine the clinical predictors of intractable epilepsy in children in Minia Psychiatric Hospital.
We aimed to:
1) To study the clinical profile, aetiopathogenesis and outcome of interactable epilepsy.
2) To determine the clinical predictors of intractability epilepsy.
The present study conducted on 150 epileptic patients recruited from Minia Psychiatric Hospital epilepsy outpatient clinic .patients presented with two or more unprovoked seizure above the age of 16 years old of both sex without any neurological or psychiatric disorder other than epilepsy are included.
Patients were classified into two groups, drug resistant epileptic group and seizure free group.
All the patients were subjected complete neurological assessment (history and examination) and EEG were done to all patients while CT , MRI and serum level of antiepileptic drugs performed only to drug resistant epileptic patients.
