Abstract Fungal keratitis was first described by leber in 1879. it represents one of the major causes of infectious keratitis in tropical areas of the world devastating ocular damage can result if it not diagnosed and treated promptly and effectively.Fungal keratitis remains a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge to the ophthalmologists. Difficulties are due to establishing sure clinical diagnosis, isolating the etiologic fungal organism in the laboratory, and treating the keratitis effectively with topical antifungal agents. In addition, the poor corneal penetration and the limited commercial availability of antifungal agents add to the problem. And so the alternate routes such as intracameral and intrastromal injections are tried to treat fungal keratitis. |
