Abstract

Thethesisconsists of three chapters. Chapter I is the introduction, Chapter Il represents
theexperimentaltechniques and Chapter III contains the experimental results and their
discussion.
Chapter I: In this chapter, an introduction is given which deals, with the following fields
of interest:
Applicationof nickel in industry, nickel alloys and nickel corrosion, the potential-pH
diagram of nickel, anodic behavior of nickel, potential of zero charge, corrosion
inhibitors, classification of inhibitors, passivity, adsorption, factors affecting the
adsorptionprocess, adsorption isotherms, the kineticthermodynamic model of corrosion
inhibition, literature survey on corrosion inhibition of nickfl and the aim of the work.
Chapter 11: The main contents of this chapter were the experimental techniques used
in the present investigation. The potentiodynamic polarization technique and
electrochemicalimpedance spectroscopy (EIS) were used. In addition, to the detailed
descriptionof the electrochemical cell, the three electrodes which are saturated calomel
electrode(SCE) as reference electrode, platinum as auxilIary electrode and the working
electrodeare described. The preparation of the test solutions in absence and presence of
theinhibitors (methyl triphenyl phosphonium bromide and vinyl triphenyl phosphonium
bromide).
Chapter Ill: In this chapter ,the experimental results were discussed in four parts:
Part I.1: Represents the effect of methyl triphenyl phosphonium bromide (MTPB) on
the corrosion behavior of nickel in aqueous in 0.5 M Na2S04 solution contain 0.1 M
aCIat 30 ·C in presence of different concentrations of MTPB using potentiodynamic
polarizationand electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) techniques.
Thepotentiodynamic polarization curves for nickel in aqueous 0.5 M Na2S04 solution
containing0.1 M NaCl in the presence of different concentrations of MTPB showed that
this compound act as mixed type inhibitor and its addition caused.
