Abstract

Acute coronary syndromes (ACS) represent an enormous disease burden, where they are one of the largest causes of mortality and morbidity.
Patients suffering an acute coronary event are at very high risk of further coronary events, and although improvements in medical therapy over the past two decades have significantly reduced the risk, yet it remains high.(1)
The statin class of drugs has demonstrated clinical efficacy in reducing long-term recurrence of myocardial infarction, ischemic events, and sudden death.
The reduction in cardiovascular event-has been largely attributed to lowering low density lipoprotien cholesterol (LDL-C) but Current-studies suggest that statin drugs have many of cholesterol-independent effects on vascular wall and circulating elements, and proved with clinical observation additional benefit of-statin-drug-on-the-vascular-endothelium,-monocytes /macrophages, platelets, smooth muscle cells, and the inflammatory process.(2)
As the atheromatous plaque is characterized histologically by accumulation of monocyte , macrophage and T-lymphocyte all of which contribute to development of inflammation.(2)
Several clinical trials proved that statins decrease elevated levels of serum inflammatory markers such as high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP)which represent independent risk factors for further cardiovascular events.(2)
We compared the effect of high dose statin versus low dose statin on hs-CRP and LDL in patients with anterior STsegment elevation myocardial infarction with a follow-up of 2 months.
