Abstract This study was done at Menoufiya University Hospital and Nasr city Insurance Hospital between Mar. 2012 and Jun. 2013. 20 children between 5-15 years old (mean of age 11.3 years) with 20 tibial shaft fractures were included. Thirteen fractures were caused by RTAs (65%), six fractures caused by falling from height (30%) and one case due to falling of heavy object over the leg ( 5%). ESINs were used in treating all the patients, two nails were used for each case with antegrade technique The mean of full weight bearing (FWB) time was 9.7 weeks (range from 8 to 16weeks). The average duration of follow up was 8.1 months (range from 6 to 15 months). Radiological union was assessed by using RUST scoring system at 4th week and 12th week. Three cases were complicated with Nail ends protrusion. Shortening <2 cm occurred in 2 cases and mal alignment (angulations) <10° occured in other 2 cases . The results were excellent in 15 patients (75%), satisfactory in 5 patients (25%) with no poor results. |
