Abstract

 This study was done at Menoufiya University Hospital and
Nasr city Insurance Hospital between Mar. 2012 and Jun. 2013.
 20 children between 5-15 years old (mean of age 11.3 years)
with 20 tibial shaft fractures were included.
 Thirteen fractures were caused by RTAs (65%), six fractures
caused by falling from height (30%) and one case due to falling
of heavy object over the leg ( 5%).
 ESINs were used in treating all the patients, two nails were
used for each case with antegrade technique
 The mean of full weight bearing (FWB) time was 9.7 weeks
(range from 8 to 16weeks). The average duration of follow up
was 8.1 months (range from 6 to 15 months).
 Radiological union was assessed by using RUST scoring
system at 4th week and 12th week.
 Three cases were complicated with Nail ends protrusion.
 Shortening <2 cm occurred in 2 cases and mal alignment
(angulations) <10° occured in other 2 cases .
 The results were excellent in 15 patients (75%), satisfactory
in 5 patients (25%) with no poor results.
