Abstract

Soft contact lenses are gaining popularity among users and
pracntioners . It is always subjected to continious development
inorder to avoid its complications, particularly deposits which
lead to various ocular changes and lens spoilage. There are four
main groups lead to lens spoilage. Organic, non organic and
mixed deposits together with physical defects and manufacturing
errors.
Organic deposits are proteins , lipids, mucin, bacteria, fungus
and amoebae. Inorganic deposits are calcium, mercurial deposits
, iron rust and environmental pollutants.
physical defects such as material impurity, holes, tears and
scratches all these factors lead to lens spoilage, and if the lens is
left on patients eye, it can cause ocular complications such as
allergic reactions, Giant papillary conjunctivitis, keratitis and
corneal ulcers.
Proper lens cleaning and disinfection is very essential in
preventing deposits and lens spoilage , as using the cleaning
solutions regularly together with regular follow up, limits ocular
complications and consequently lens changes and damages.
Recently new drugs are found to remove already present deposits.
Also a new lens material is invented which repel protein
deposition. The presence of the new cleaning solution (all in one)
mcreases the compliance of the patients and helping in
prevention and control of lens spoilage
