Abstract This work was carried out to survey Salmonella infection in broiler chicken carcasses at small poultry processing shops in Kafr El-Sheikh province. The comparison of ordinary method for bacteriological examination and delayed secondary enrichment (OSE) procedures, as well as the effect of chemotherapeutic agents on Salmonella isolates, in addition to detection of Sal. Enteritidis by using polymerase chain reaction (PCR). The results are summarized in the following: • Out of 152 examined broiler chicken carcasses, 8 were positive for Salmonella at a percentage of 5.26%. • On comparison between ordinary method of isolation and OSE, 3 Salmonellae isolates were recovered using ordinary method while 8 isolates were recovered using OSE. • Using PCR for detection of the serotype of Sal. Enteritidis, 7 isolates from the 8 isolates were Sal. Enteritidis representing 4.6% of the total 15a examined samples and 87.5% from the 8 isolated Salmonellae; • The in vitro sensiti~ test revealed that ciprofloxacin gave the highest activity agailllst Salmonella isolates (87.5%) followed by chloramphenicol, etf’ofloxacin and norfloxacin (75% for each). On the other hand,I.n 8 Salmonella isolates were resistant to amoxycillin, penicilliP and spectinomycin (100%). |
