Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of using the
electronic book (eBook) on developing English Reading Skills among
Second Year Preparatory school Students. Eighty six of second year
preparatory students, representing two classes at Hussein EL-Ghorab
preparatory school constituted the subjects of the study. They were
divided into two groups, the experimental group (N=43) and the
control group (N=43). A pre-post reading skills test and an e-book
were designed and prepared. Both groups were pre-tested before
conducting the study to make sure that they are equal and
homogenous in their entry level of reading skills. The e-book was
taught to the experimental group whereas the control group students
were taught the regular book. After conducting the experiment, both
groups were post-tested using the reading skills pre-post test. After
one month the both groups were retested using the pre-post test as a
follow-up-test. Independent and paired samples ”t” test were used to
analyze the data. Results of the study showed that the use of the ebook
is more effective than the regular book in developing English
reading skills among the second year preparatory school students.
